Review: Dian Xiao Er @ NEX

Hello everyone! It has been a long time and the boy is back on shift again! If your parents prefer Tze Char (like my dad does), do check out Dian Xiao Er, serving traditional Chinese food with great ambience which makes it ideal for family gathering or mini celebration.

A replication of the 龙门客栈 (Dragon gate) isn't it? Be sure to expect a dinner crowd even when it is a weekday, so do make a reservation before coming!

We were particularly impressed with the layout of the restaurant which brings back the olden feeling. Great food, great people with great ambience.

We were very fortunate to be allocated a mini room which has more privacy (especially when taking photo :P)

Chinese lanterns which you hardly see these days, except in Chinatown.

Also, we were impressed with the effort of Dian Xiao Er in bringing a number of healthier choice food on their menu! It's possible to eat healthy when you're dining outside too! On the menu you can also find the amount of calories (for small portion) under the description. So if you are particular about your calories intake per day, this might be useful for you!

Duck Roasted with Angelica Herb, $14.30 (600 kcal for small portion).

Serves to nourish the blood, promotes blood circulation and removes blood stagnation. So those who are anaemic, you can consider taking angelica herb (Dang Gui) regularly. :)

Soft and Tender, the Herbal Roast Duck exceeded our expectation and the skin was also really crispy!
The girl especially love the herbal taste of the duck. It goes really well with the rice!

Braised Assorted Mushroom with Broccoli, $13.60 (100 kcal for small portion)

Calling all mushroom lovers! The mushroom were soft and the gravy was so good that the girl wiped the plate clean down to the last bit. This girl surely loves her gravies! LOL!

Three different types of mushroom here. A traditional combination packed with plenty of nutrients and antioxidants.

Sautéed Crab Meat with Sponge Gourd & Homemade Tofu, $12.90 (250 kcal for small portion)

Another well liked dish by everyone. Sponge Gourd is simmered in stock sweetened with crabmeat and served pipping hot over homemade tofu.

We love the homemade tofu especially! So soft and silken!

Yam Ring Delight, $19.90 (760 kcal for small portion)

This is one of the must have for my dad as he loves it. Basically any food that is deep fried is his favourite (although we advocate healthy food). heh heh. Kind of sad that these days you can't really find a place that serves good yam ring though.

Look! Filled with seafood such as cuttlefish, prawns and green & red pepper, cashew nuts.

Yums!

Nicely sliced by the staff for our easily eating.  :)

Claypot Boneless Chicken & Shallots, $12.90 (380 kcal for small portion)

The dish may look all ordinary, but don't judge a book by it's cover!

Chicken was really tender and the gravy was really good that! Just the right amount of spiciness to hit right on the tastebud.

Overall we were very satisfied with the place and the staff were very polite and friendly! Waiting time for food to be served was reasonable as well, despite the dinner crowd.
