Review: Density Frozen Custard @ Short Street + GIVEAWAY

Have you heard of frozen custard?

I'm starting to imagine your "???" expressions. Hahaha!

I was like you too, frozen custard? Custard that is frozen? LOL!

Well..

Frozen custard is essential a type of ICE CREAM!

A little knowledge for you on the history of frozen custard. Ok don't fall asleep yet, something exciting is waiting for you at the end! :D

It is unique to USA, dating back to 1919! Because of its extremely low overrun and high butterfat content, frozen custard is categorised by the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) as a super premium ice cream!
Cut the long story short, if you want to know more, you can just google about frozen custard, or come down to Density! I'm sure the owners would be very happy to share with you more! ^^

Conveniently located beside rochor tau huay and the ramen stall!

I like the industrial-chic look decoration! A bit rustic and vintage feel. :)

History of Frozen Custard is also being displayed on the wall! I guess this frozen custard thing is really very new for us.

Besides serving up ice cream (duhh), they have some good coffees too!
Beans are from Two Degrees North Coffee Co.

Wide choices of toppings to go with your frozen custard!

Because, ice creams are freshly churned each morning, Density serves three flavours daily - Madagascan vanilla bean, chocolate rocher and daily special.

The prices are as follow:
 ice cream: $4, $7, $9.50 (1, 2 and 3 scoops respectively)
Sundaes & Concretes: from $9
Affogato: $7.50
Toppings: $1 each
Sauces: $0.50 (the chocolate sauce is really good!)

*10% discount for all students!

The churning of frozen custard.

Doesn't look that.. pleasing? Haha.

Look at how the owner actually dug a hole within the ice cream and it didn't break at all! This is the magic of frozen custard. It is so dense!!

We made our own sundaes too! Hahaha!

But I think a down part of frozen custard is that it melts super fast! So you really have to get your camera ready and do a quick snap! O
therwise very soon you will find yourself 'drinking' ice cream. :P

We tried the 3 flavours that were available for the day:

Madagascan vanilla bean: with vanilla beans sourced directly from Madagascar, it was really rich and creamy! One that vanilla fans should come and try for yourselves!

Chocolate rocher: my favourite of the three. Featuring chocolate hazelnut served with crushed wafer pieces.

Buttered popcorn: made with freshly prepared popcorn. Strangely most of us didn't taste any hint of popcorn in it. In fact all of us agreed that it actually tasted like our childhood favourite, rainbow paddlepop! haha!

Overall, I think Density Frozen Custard adds a bit of interesting element into Singapore's ice cream market! It's worth of a try if you like smooth and creamy ice cream! And you're going to be very happy to hear that frozen custards are lower in calories and sugar as compared to other ice cream!
