Review: ABC Brickwork Food Market + Salut Coffeeshop @ Jalan Bukit Merah

Last weekend was Mr Tan Dad's birthday and we decided to do hawker theme for dinner (read more on the celebration from my dayre)! Simply because uncle loves western food? So when the boy asked me to recommend good western food in Singapore, the first that came into my mind was WOW WOW WEST @ ABC Brickwork Food Market.

Of course we did not just settle for Wow Wow West only, since we are at this famous food market, of course we have to try another popular food stalls as well right?

Thus, the crazy amount of food we bought to feed... 5 and we finished every single thing! xD

So this post will be a share of the wonderful food at ABC Brickwork Food Market as well as Salut Coffeeshop, another coffeeshop nearby that we patronised the next day! ^^

A little story about this popular food centre. Do you know how it's name came about?

ABC Brickworks Food Centre is named after Archipelago Brewery Company (Singapore’s first commercial brewery).

You'll be spoiled by choices over here because this food centre houses almost 100 different stalls!

I feel wish I could order more food that the ones we did! :P

1. Wow Wow West.

Probably the longest queue you'll find at the market. The queue was no joke. We were there about 7pm, and we queued about an hour before we finally got our food.

But it was well worth the wait!

Fish & Chips, $6

I have heard about the generosity at Wow Wow West, but we must really see it to believe it! The portion was so huge that the box couldn't be closed properly! Hahaha!

Chicken Chop, $6.

Of course huge portion won't be able to keep the crowd coming back, especially when the food industry is so competitive!

The food was good, more than food in fact. Chicken chop was tender, moist and juicy! While the fish & chips beats some reputable restaurants hands down!

Chicken cutlet, $6.

But my favourite was this. Perfectly fried chicken cutlet.

Note that we actually buy the food home and even after a 30min drive, the food was still so yummy!

A pity that the pork chop has sold out when it was our turn. :/

This particular Hokkien Mee stall, Tiong Bahru Yi Sheng Fried Hokkien Mee, is highly raved by many foodies as well. Ranked as one of the best Hokkien Mee in Singapore!

The picture did not do this packet of awesomeness justice. The reason why I dislike to takeaway food unless really needed is because the food quality will always be compromised. :/

Having said that, we were really amazed by how good the hokkien mee was! Try it if you love wet hokkien mee!

Because I can never resist popiah. Even so when I saw a snake queue forming! :D

This is Ong Khim Popiah, and what made me really delighted was when I was queueing for my turn, the lady boss was so polite when taking my order! I want to say that her smile really brightened my night and brought warmness to the heart too. :')

I hate to say this, but usually at hawker centres, I'm greeted by grumpy aunties or uncles. Can't blame them for that. It's the environment that they are working in. So this little incident really touches my heart. :)

$1.50, per roll.

I like their chewy skin, but not so much of the filling.

Oyster Omelette, Ork Luk, $5.

I seriously cannot resist this super sinful thing!!! :D

There is a reason why the orh luk was packed with 2 sheet of paper. IT WAS DRENCHED IN OIL.

But orh luk must be oily!! If not it won't be nice right?

Ghim Moh Carrot Cake, Yuan Yang, $4.

Yes, the original ghim moh carrot cake has 2 outlets now!

I ordered a yuan yang (white and black mix) just because white carrot cake is the signature and black carort cake was my craving. Heh. :P

Well, it's signature for a reason. For once, I actually prefer white carrot cake to the black one (lacks the flavour)!

We chose to takeaway and eat at the comfort of his home. :)

Nothing like bonding over good food with your love ones seriously. Enjoyed the meal so much. :')

Not forgetting the cake that I've baked for Mr Tan's father. :)

Pandan Gula Melaka Cake with shredded coconut.

Will share the recipe when I have the time. Meanwhile, hop over to my dayre for more pictures of the came!

It was so good that I finished a big slice by myself despite the filling dinner. Heh :P

The next day, Mr Tan and I headed back to Jalan Bukit Merah (seriously so much good food in this area!). We came to Salut Coffeeshop which is just across from Alexandra food market!

This is like an atas coffeeshop? But don't be mistaken, because there is definitely no 'kopi' or 'kopi-o' here. :P

We were invited by the people behind Jack Ripper, to choose their burgers!

I have seen a number of posts on their burgers on Instagram, so I was so looking to try their yummy looking burgers! :D

Since, Two Wings is in the same coffeeshop, it only make sense for us to have some too! :D

Photo spam while waiting for our food! :PpP

Coincidentally we were in the same colour for your tops! Heh.

The wings came first. $12.50 for 6.

The wings themselves were like saying IM VERY CRISPY!

And I like the clean look of the wings?
Like it tells the person that 'hey, I'm fried with clean oil, not those overly recycled oil.'

Possibly the best chicken wings in town?

Yes, highly possible.

Emma & Martha, $24.

Think 300g oozing cheese beef patty!

It was so juicy~~~

But because of the size, I highly recommend that you share the portion and the calories too! :p

Mary Ann, $18.
modification of the signature burger 'fairy fay', except with addition of 3 strips of bacon!

This is a much manageable portion as compared the other one!

A meal that worth running a few more rounds on the track! :D

  1. You can find many different types of coffee that fit into the category of best coffee beans in the world, however you should tend to find fit your taste with coffee beans.
