Review: Fu Lin Men Dou Lao 福临门豆捞 @ 16 North Canal Road

Had a dinner tasting the other night at Fu Lin Men Dou Lao 福临门豆捞, founded by orthopaedic specialist and senior researcher, Professor Zhang Ming, from the coastal province of Zhe Jiang which is blessed with a fresh and wide variety of seafood! 

Interestingly, when Prof Zhang visited Singapore, he struggled to find a healthy soup close to his liking!  Thus, he decided to build a gimmick-free Dou Lao hot pot brand based on traditional broths in Singapore.

So lucky us~ We get to enjoy a good Dou Lao in Singapore now! :) 

Oh! In case you are curious about the meaning of 'Dou Lao 豆捞'. 

Dou Lao is widely acknowledged as  the “royals” of hotpots in China because it focuses on improving one’s health & vitality through food (食疗 )! 

The 220-seater 3-storey corner shophouse has 7 private rooms! 

Each table is fitted with personal hotpots complete with its individual temp-control knobs. ^^

I definitely prefer an individualised hotpot like this. :D

There are 5 different soup broths here at Fu Lin Men Dou Lao and they are named after the 5 chinese elements, Gold, Wood (vitality wild and cultured mushroom broth), Water (milky Longevity toufu broth), Fire (Sizzlingly chili broth), Earth (Nourishing tomato broth)

The must try is this Fu Lin Men’s Signature Golden Imperial broth. 

It is a Manchu & Han Imperial Feast classic favoured by the royals! You can even find Igold flakes on top of the soup! Indeed a soup that is fit for the royals. :D

Freshly Cultured Sea Prawns with Marbled Beef, $18.

This is also one of my favourite dish on the menu! ^^

Fresh Beancurd Pockets with Fresh Seafood Paste, $10. 

Love the seafood paste and it could only be because the paste tasted so fresh! That naturally sweetness from the seafood tells. ^^ 

Handcrafted Dou Lao Meatballs, $7. 

Prawn meat ball with golden roe,
Beef meat ball with cheese,
Squid meat ball with chocolate,
Pork meat ball with water chestnut & black fungus,
Seafood meat ball with golden mushroom and squid meat ball with spinach

The flavours are all so interesting right? Especially the one with chocolate! I love them all! :D

Wild Bamboo Pith with Fresh Prawn Paste, $18. 

Lion's Mane Mushroom with Chicken Fillet, $12. 

Probably the most item on the menu! 

Bountiful blessings of 3 treasures, morel, matsutake & lion's mane mushroom, $28.

If you're a fungi lover, you have to try this! 

Fresh Oriental Greens and Wild and Cultivated Mushrooms, $10. 

Premier Oxtail, $10. 

Highly recommended too! :D

Grand Imperial Premium Bird's Nest, $28. 

Golden Pineapple Glutinous Rice, $9. 

Similar to mango sticky rice, except the glutinous rice is wetter and more mushy!

Overall we had a great meal at  Fu Lin Men Dou Lao! We love the golden imperial soup broth especially! So flavourful! If you love to drink good soup, this is a place that you can try! ^^ 

ps: they have a good lunch promotion! Good for people who are working around the CBD area!
