Bangkok Trip 2013: Day 3

Firstly, before I start the post proper, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL!
 HOHOHO!

Started our day 3 with a visit to the famous Erawan Shrine.

The shrine is a Hindu one, that houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu creation god Brahma. Judging from the popularity, a lot of wishes must have been granted here?

Erawan Shrine
In front of Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, corner of Ploenchit and Ratchadamri Road
BTS: Chidlom

Opening Hours: 06:00-24:00

Avid of BKK would definitely be familiar with the name Som Tam Nua. It's another to visit place when you're in town.

Many of us may only be aware of it's location at Siam Square, which can be a challenge to locate. However, by chance again, the boy and I found their new branch which is conveniently located at Siam Centre!

Because we believe life is short, so eat first and whine later.
LOL.

Sweet and sour fried fish, fried to perfection and the fish was super fresh!

Stir fried rice noodles.

Don't be fooled by it's ordinary look. This has to be one of the yummiest noodles I HAVE EVER HAD.

Tom Yum Soup, which was surprisingly clear and the soup consisted of pork  instead of the usual seafood.

Fried chicken, which you CANNOT miss.

Thai-style papaya salad, another dish that I really adore.

Basically you may say we adored everything and this was probably one of the best meal we had in BKK.

 Som Tam Nua
Siam Centre level 3
or
392/14 Soi Siam Square 5

Another street food that I would recommend is definitely fruits, which are so sweet and juicy! I especially love the preserved ones such as preserved guava.

Anyhow, day 3 sees us exploring Siam Square which I would say is a mix of our Bugis street and Haji Lane. Don't expect prices to be as competitive as Platinum Mall, but you'll definitely be able to find designs which you'll not be able to find at Platinum Mall.

What is shopping without constant food intervals? :P

As the name suggest, Mango Tango specialises in mango dessert. It kinda reminds of Hong Kong's Hui Lau Shan. I was there about 3pm in the afternoon and the place was literally flooded with human. Yes be prepared to wait.

Mango Rhumba, 80 baht - mango pudding + mixed fruits + fresh mango

Mango Tango, 145 baht - Mango pudding + mango ice cream + fresh mango + sticky rice.

Overall, I wasn't really impressed with the desserts. Yes the desserts were really well done and nicely presented. But I'm certain with the price, I can get many more portions mango sticky rice which are just as yummy.

I would say the selling point of Mango Tango is their cleanliness, you get to enjoy your mango sticky rice in a clean, air-conditioned environment rather than from some road side stall.

Siam Square Soi 5
Opening hours: 1130 - 2200

And the food exploration continues...

Finally getting my hands on this highly raved doughnut.

Original-glazed.

Oh boy, I'm so so so impressed with this!!! The doughnut literally melted in my mouth. :')
Finally, I could comprehend that long queue outside Tangs.

Almond chocolate-glazed.

On the other hand, their flavoured ones were less impressive. It was so good, but lacking in the melt-in-your-mouth-sensation. So I say, stick to original.

Krispy Hreme
Siam Paragon Level 1

Before we knew it, it was dinner time! Headed to Chinatown as planned for some cheap cheap tze char.

Judging from the crowd, T&K Seafood, is definitely a hot pick amongst the locals as well as tourists.

Queuing is very systematic here as well, you get a number and wait for it to be called. Initially we were reluctant to wait as we were hungry and there were easily at least 10 groups infront of us in the queue. However, I think it was easier for the two of us to get a table, so we waited only like 10mins?

Don't ask me how was it possible for the 2 of us to finish the entire table (and ordered another bowl of rice), we just did.

Oyster omelette.

Tom Yum Gong.

Stir fried Hong Kong noodles.

Steam fish.

Kang Kong.

Stir fried spicy sotong.

Overall the food were really decent, can't say awesome as there were some hits and misses. But for the price (about $30 for the entire table), it's definitely super duper worth it!

T&K Seafood
49-51 Soi Phadung Dao, Yaowarat Road
Operating hours: 1630-0200

Took a stroll around the area after dinner and we found a dessert corner just across the road from T&K seafood.

There are 2 dessert stalls located side by side along the road and both of them were equally popular!

From the 1st stall, can't remember the name exactly but it tasted like our Chng Tang!

Next we hopped over to the 2nd stall and ordered something weird, beancurd in ginger soup. We took a mouth each and left it there. LOL! The ginger taste was too over-powering~

Had to order another bowl of dessert to neutralise that ginger after taste. Hahaha!

Ginkgo shaved ice, which tasted like heaven probably because of that earlier dessert. Heh.

Anyhow, the dessert menu from the 2 stalls were actually similar. But the 1st stall seems to have more patrons.

and then we continued to fill our stomach with more food. Lychee sorbet on the left and Thai milk tea on the right.

Seriously, I'm impressed with the amount of food that we had.  hahaha!

Anyways, click here and day 1 and here for day 2 of the trip! Stay tune for the final installment, day 4! ^^

Love,
Lirong.
