Review: Ippudo @ Westgate

Ippudo is one of Japan’s top ramen shops, which brought about a hype since it's opening in 2009. Even till today, there are often long queues during peak hours.

The boy and I seized the opportunity to finally try it when we found that there wasn't any queue outside the restaurant! Hurray! :D

Have to say we were really on luck that day, as after we came in, a queue started to form outside. *phew*

Hakata Gyoza, $7.

Ippudo's original homemade panfried dumplings which didn't quite win my heart.

Spicy Black Ramen, $15.

Ippudo's original pork broth with special nikumiso, served with thin noodles, topped with chashu and a combination of bitter-spicy salad & healthy pakuchi.

If you're a thin, whitish ramen noodles fan, you'll definitely love the Hakata-style ramen of Ippudo. We can even select the hardness of your noodles to be cooked, soft/medium/hard/very hard.

I had mine hard because I'm a slow-eater and I really don't want my noodles to turn soggy as they soak up the soup.

Spicy special, $24.

The ramen comes with flavoured egg, tender pork cube and bamboo shoots.

The boy had his noodles medium, which he regretted not opting for hard instead. That's to say the noodles turned soggy quite fast!

Overall, I love their ramen as I'm a Hakata-style ramen lover! :D However I can't say the same for their soup broth. Flavourable I can't deny, but it was also too salty as well, which leaves me feeling so dehydrated afterwhich. :/

Ippudo being the best ramen in Singapore? Nah, not that I would agree.
