2nd Year Anniversary // Tamago amd sushi rice recipes

Another 5th October, another year holding hands together. :')

This year we do away with all the fancy dinner dates. Just a simple celebration at the comfort of home.

We made food together.

Initially we planned to make bento for a picnic at Marina Barrage like we did last year, then visit our early dating places like East 8, Riders Cafe and more.

Sadly, the haze condition was really bad so we could only stay indoor.

Well, not that sad afterall. It's the company that is the most important for us! :)

So here are the items that we made together! :D

Our lunch of character bentos, mini matcha custard fruit tarts and moscato!

Have always been wanting to make cute bentos like this! Ok, maybe not the cutest, but first time making, so please give chance! :P

Mr Tan was in charged of making this couple bento! Not too bad eh?

When I was editing the photos, I realised that the 'button' was out of place. T.T

While I tried to build a snowman.

Sorry, Olaf. I have forgotten about your 3 strands of hair! :P

If you're wondering how I learnt to make bento, the answer is YOUTUBE! Just watch some videos! It's really helpful! Perhaps Google some images to give you inspirations too! ^^

I could share the sushi rice and tamago recipes though. :)

Sushi Rice - ingredients:
1 cup Japanese short gain rice
1 1/4 cup water
a piece of konbu/kelp (about 8cm long)
2 tbsp Japanese rice vinegar

1. Wash the rice until the water runs clear. Drain and add water and kelp. Cook the rice using a rice cooker.

2. When the rice is cooked, discard the piece of kelp. Transfer the cooked rice to a bowl. Pour the rice vinegar over the rice.

3. Mix the rice well using a rice paddle with one hand, while fanning the rice with a paper fan on the other.

4. Cover the bowl of rice with a damp cloth to keep the rice so as to retain the moisture of the rice. Allow the rice to cool before handling.

Again, I watched YouTube videos to learn how to roll a tamago! ^^

I don't have a tamago pan, I simply use a round sauce pan and it works as well. :)

Tamago - ingredients:
3 eggs
4 tbsp dashi
1 tsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. mirin

1. Gently beat the eggs in a bowl.

2. In another bowl, combine the seasoning, mix well before adding into the egg mixture.

3. Heat the sauce pan over medium heat. Using a kitchen towel, apply oil to the pan. Pour a thin layer of egg mixture in the pan, tilting to cover the bottom of the pan.

4. When the edge of the egg starts to set, start rolling into a log shape from one side to the other.

5. Move the rolled omelette to the side where you started the roll. Apply more oil to the pan if needed. Pour the egg mixture again to cover the bottom of the pan. Make sure to lift the omelette to spread the mixture underneath.

6. When the edge of the new egg layer has set, start rolling from one side to the other. Move the rolled omelette to the side where you started to roll.

7. Repeat the cycle until you finish all the egg mixture.

Check out my dayre for more behind the scene photos of our bento making! :)

Made his favourite mini fruit tarts again. :)

A new flavour of matcha custard and butter cookie crust!

Will share with everyone the recipe when I have the time! :)

Ended the night with an early dinner at Curious Palette before catching The Intern.

ps: The ricotta pancake is really good! Gorgeous space as well! <3

A song for him. :')

I believe every relationship is different and I love how ours is going along. :')
