Review: FYR Cycene Ond Drinc @ Boon Tat St

FYR Cycene Ond Drinc also pronounced as FIRE Kitchen And Drink

Mr Tan and I were invited here for dinner a while back and upon stepping into the restaurant, I was attracted to the rustic interior design and storied wall murals! Felt like I have just travelled back in time!

Well, the story wall literally explains the reason for the name of "FYR/FIRE".

Fire - one of the most important elements in life, especially in cooking.

As a Science geek, I adore the walls! Hahaha! :P

Left: Lime & Mint Soda, $4.50.
Right: Ginger Lemongrass Ice Tea, $4.50.

We tried a number of their beverages and these 2 are my picks!

Others include:
Apple Rosemary Soda, $4.50.
Hibiscus Mint Ice Tea, $4.50.
Grilled Fresh Fruit Juice, $4.50.

Basically, the drinks are on the refreshing side! For the adventurous ones, give the grilled fresh fruit juice a try! Very interesting flavours there. :)

Self entertainment before the food was being served. Heh.

ps: I look like I'm in my own world on the left? hahaha! :P

Appetizers

All of FYR's food are whipped up using the Josper Charcoal Oven! If I'm not wrong, it's the only restaurant in Singapore to be using this oven? Basically food will be cooked atop wood chucks and over a roaring fire!

Baked Freshly Shucked Oysters, $15.

Not really a lover of oysters but they are really fat and juicy! I like the flavouring though, because a lot of spices were being used!

Baked aubergine & chickpea ragout, $10.

My favourite starter! I think if you are an eggplant + chickpea + Indian spices lover, you will be able to appreciate this awesome combination! Plus that layer of Parmesan cheese on top!! Need I say more? *insert heart shape eyes*

Baked half bone marrow, $15.

Served with veal sweetbreads as well! But I think the bread is overly toasted? A bit too dry and hard for my liking. :/ Bone marrow was not bad though, well executed with the pairing of spices!

Mains

Grain-fed US Holstein Cow Ribeye 365 days, $32.
You know, I love beef so much now that I look forward to eating beef! Hahaha!

Served with a house salad that was interesting dressed with java curry! The glorious slab of ribeye is served alongside with 2 types of sauces as well! One truffle, the other foie gras. Of course I prefer the truffled one! Hehe.. :D

Spiced deboned red snapper with sambal belacan, $25.

This is one dish that will satisfy all the spicy food lover! Likewise to the ribeye, you get a choice of either buttered cassava or mashed potato!

Seafood Linguine, $18.

One of my favourite mains of the night! The pasta was really flavourful with the delightful lobstor bisque, laksa leaves and Thai basil!

Five-spiced Half Chicken, Striploin, Asian-spiced Tiger Prawns, $55.

This is a wonderful platter for sharing! Basically best of the 3 worlds?

I feel that the chicken was a bit too dry for me. But thankfully the beef and prawns were still juicy enough.

Whole Maine Lobster, $35.

Really, I feel that the sauce has overpowered the freshness of the lobster. :/

DeRaza Iberico Pork Chop, $32.

This is just a tasting portion btw. I'll recommend you to get this one! Tasted a bit like our char siew, nonetheless was great!

Seafood Saffron Risotto, $48.

Love this as equally as the seafood linguine! Both were equally flavourful! A must try I would say.

Baked Pistachio Melt & Pandan Ice Cream, $10.

This is a very refreshing combination for a lava cake! Wish the taste of pistachio could be more prominent though.

That heart-racing moment. Haha.

Didn't particularly fancy this lava cake. The only good thing about this dessert is probably the pandan ice cream that was served along.

Notice I have been ending my post with an #ootd? Hahaha! Vain or what? :P

Anyway, I think the selling point of FYR would be their good use of spices! If you like Asian spices, do check this place out! :)
