Recipe: Matcha Egg Tarts

More matcha recipes to share with everyone~ ^^

This time round I made matcha egg tarts! Of matcha pastry shell and a matcha custard. :) 

Matcha all day everyday indeed! ^^

If you're a fan of matcha, or even just egg tarts alone, this is a good alternative to the conventional ones! :) 

This reminds of incredible hulk. 

Hahahah! :P

Added some azuki beans in some as well. Hehe.. :D 

Why the crack in my egg tarts?

Because I left the tarts to cool in the oven and happily forgotten to take them out. T.T

So everyone. When the egg tarts are baked, DO NOT leave them in the oven to cool! Take it out in the open air to cool please. 

Unless, you don't mind ugly tarts like mine. :< 

Ingredients (makes 12 egg tarts)
Tart pastry
       60g butter, soften at r.t.p
        25g icing sugar, sifted
       1 egg
       150g all purpose flour + 1tbsp matcha powder
Tart filling
       200g milk + 2tbsp matcha powder
       30g sugar
       1 egg + 1 egg yolk

***ps: I love the strong flavours of matcha, hence I've used more matcha powder. You can start by halving the matcha powder amount that I've used. :)

Tart pastry 
1. Cream butter and icing sugar until fluffy then add the egg and beat well.
2. Sift flour and matcha powder together. Add the butter mixture into the flour. Knead to form a soft dough. Cover and set aside for about 20 minutes.
3. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a greased tart shell. 
4. Use a fork to prick holes on the surface of the pastry shell before baking in a preheated oven at 180 degree Celsius for 10 minutes.
Tart filling
1. Heat up the matcha milk mixture and sugar to just boil. 
2. Remove the matcha milk mixture from heat and add egg and egg yolk into the mixture. Stir and mix well before passing the mixture through a fine sieve.
3. Pour the matcha custard mixture into the baked tart shells and bake in a  preheated oven at 180 degree Celsius for 20 minutes or when the custard has set. 

Tip: 12 egg tarts won't be enough to feed a family of matcha lovers.
