Media invite: 'Tiong Bahru Bakery Goes Local' with Gula Melaka Kouign Amann

Tiong Bahru Bakery is no stranger to many of us, especially to the bakery lovers!

The wide range of sandwiches and pastries got me really excited! #breadloverforever

More pastries and cakes.

These are just some of the yummy treats you can expect at Tiong Bahru Bakery. But I wasn't here for all these.

I was here to meet the brain behind Tiong Bahru Bakery, Chef Gontran Cherrier!

If you have no idea who is this talented man is, Chef Gontran Cherrier is a French pastry chef who owns Gontran Cherrier Paris as well as bakeries in Tokyo!

The night, Chef Gontran shared with us some of his tips and tricks in bread pairing! There are just so many different types of bread, each with their unique flavours. So which do you choose to go with the even wider range of ingredients?

Certainly there is no better person than Chef Gontran to share with us the tips. :)

We had so much fun sampling all the different combinations of sandwiches and each of them yields a total different experiences! Not to forget our Chef was so humorous and bubbly! I especially enjoyed his sharing on his journey of baking. ^^

Now since it was a 'Tiong Bahru Bakery Goes Local' event, there has to be a reason! Chef Gontran Cherrier has actually decided to 'go local' during his stay in Singapore. Inspired by Asian ingredients and dishes, the chef went on a quest to discover what we, Singaporeans, would like to taste in his bakes! Hence the #gontrangoeslocal campaign.

A popularity poll based on the following local ingredients:
1. peanuts
2. gula melala
3. char siew
4. laksa

Guess, which was the winning ingredients?

GULA MELAKA!

Now, besides the yummy, traditional French pastries at Tiong Bahru Bakery.

There are three new additions to the family of our favourite, Kouign Amann. All with the infusion of our local ingredient, Gula Melaka.

1. Gula Melaka and Chocolate Kouign Amann
combined with the top quality French chocoalate with palm suagr.
2. Gula Melaka and Grated Coconut Kouign Amann
a perfect marriage of flavours that is commonly found in many Asian desserts.
3. Gula Melaka and Crushed Peanuts Kouign Amann
The addition of peanuts add an extra crunch and texture.

Thank you Chef Gontran for making the yummy Kouign Amann so special and personal for all Singaporeans!

All Gula Melaka Kouign Amann series are priced at $4.50 each! Personally I prefer these new flavours to the original ones. Gula Melaka definitely brings an extra kick to the Kouign Amann. :)
